Overview

CERES is a 36-month project co-funded by the European Union under the Interreg NEXT MED Programme, with an EU contribution of €2,223,042 (89%) out of a total budget of €2,497,800. The project aims to strengthen sustainable growth, competitiveness and job creation among micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) across the Mediterranean.

CERES will establish three Centers of Excellence (CoEs) in Greece, Palestine and Lebanon, serving as innovation hubs that provide advanced training, entrepreneurship support and access to green and digital transition technologies. It will develop 15 micro-credential courses, create three Living Labs and implement 10 solar-based pilot projects focused on energy resilience, water management and productive uses.

Through capacity building and cross-border cooperation, CERES empowers local innovators and businesses to develop resilient, affordable and replicable solutions.

Why is it necessary?

Many Mediterranean regions experience frequent energy disruptions, weak infrastructure, and difficulties in maintaining essential services. This limit the competitiveness of MSMEs, which often lack the technical skills required to adopt modern, digitalized renewable technologies. CERES addresses this challenge by creating a collaborative ecosystem where MSMEs, students, professionals, and local actors can access specialised training, solar technologies, digital tools, mentoring, and real-life demonstrations of resilient energy solutions.

Project Objectives

To support sustainable growth and competitiveness of MSMEs through the engagement of young graduates, start-ups, and enterprises in the green and digital transition.

To establish Centres of Excellence (CoEs) within existing structures and programmes as platforms for innovation and capacity building.

To strengthen and support transnational networks, clusters, consortia, and value chains in the energy sector to advance cooperation and promote sustainability in line with Sustainable Development Goals and New European Bauhaus principles.
